When are Beach Shack Writers retreats offered?
Our weekly retreat sessions -- Sunday arrival/Friday departure -- are offered from October through March, when the bustling summer tourist season has ended and the island is peaceful and quiet once more. It’s truly the perfect place and the perfect time for a writing retreat.
What’s the weather like during the off-season?
The off-season weather on the island is absolutely gorgeous: sunny and mid-70s, and even when it does get a bit chilly, the word winter rarely comes to mind.
What’s included in my Beach Shack Writers retreat package?
Your 5 Day Beach Shack Week Package includes: A free one-hour private coaching/editing session with Beach Shack founder and director Cindy Whitman; Welcoming Cocktail Meet & Greet; Daily Grab & Go Breakfast Coffee & Croissants from The French Kiss Bakery; Nightly Happy Hour Resident Readings with Appetizers, Beer & Wine, at Coconutz Sports Bar & Grill; a Welcome to Beach Shack Villa Gift Basket, a free 5-day bike rental; and your choice of accommodations.
What are my accommodation choices?
What makes the Beach Shack Writers retreat experience especially rich – and uniquely affordable -- is our accommodations partnership with the wonderful folks at Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Resort, a full-service beachfront island resort. Our writers reside in resort-managed villas and have full access to all of the resort amenities, including an attendant-supervised gym, a full service sports bar and restaurant, the largest swimming pool on the island and, of course, the beach is your backyard.
Best of all, because all accommodations are handled directly through the resort, Beach Shack writers have options for length of stay, size of place, and price. One and two bedroom villas -- all with full kitchens, balconies, and direct beach access -- are available with various views at various rates.
Our director lives year-round at the resort and all retreat activities take place on site.
How do I get to Hilton Head Island?
Those coming by plane have the option of flying into Savannah, GA. (a 45 minute drive to the Island), or directly into Hilton Head Airport. There are numerous car rental agencies at both airports, and Hilton Head has great cab service.
What do I do when I’m not writing?
In addition to pristine beaches and an abundance of nature to explore, the Island’s amenities include wonderful local restaurants, night spots and coffee shops. There’s also a Barnes & Noble Bookstore, several wonderful day spas, and a plethora of specialty shops.
